Illinois softball lost to Indiana 8-5 in the series opener on May 1. The game saw Eileen Donahue hit her 14th home run of the season, tying her for eighth place in single-season program history.

In Friday’s game, Skylar Brennan began with a walk and was brought home by Ellie Haggard’s sacrifice fly. Keirys Click added a two-run home run to give Illinois an early lead. Indiana responded with a two-RBI double from Josie Bird and then surged ahead in the second inning after Avery Parker hit a grand slam. Despite efforts from Alaina Miller and additional runs by Donahue and Brennan later in the game, Illinois could not overcome Indiana’s offense.
Donahue went 1-for-3 at bat with a walk; her home run placed her alongside Jessica Davis (2011) for eighth most homers in a single season at Illinois. Click also contributed with her seventh homer of this year and eleventh overall career long ball, ranking third on the team behind Donahue and Haggard. Haggard had one double—her sixth this year—and drove in another run with a sacrifice fly.
