Illinois softball concluded its 2026 season with a 7-3 defeat against Indiana on May 3. Taylor Porter hit her first collegiate home run during the game.

The outcome closes the year for the University of Illinois Fighting Illini Women’s Softball team, which competes in intercollegiate softball at the NCAA Division I level and is affiliated with the Big Ten Conference, according to the official website. The team plays its home games in Urbana, Illinois.

In Saturday’s game, Aly VanBrandt opened scoring for Indiana with a solo home run. Jose Bird added a three-run homer and Madelyn Strader scored on a wild pitch. Relief pitcher Abby Sabalaskey retired Indiana in order in the second inning before Ava Moore led off the third for Illinois with a triple and later scored on an RBI groundout by Alaina Miller. Despite additional hits from Skylar Brennan and others, Illinois could not close the gap as Indiana added runs in both fourth and fifth innings.

Taylor Porter entered as center fielder in the final frame and hit a two-RBI home run—her first collegiate homer—cutting into Indiana’s lead before consecutive outs ended Illinois’ comeback attempt. Postgame notes highlighted Porter’s perfect performance at bat along with contributions from Moore, Brennan, Keirys Click, Eileen Donahue, Ellie Haggard, and Sabalaskey.

The Fighting Illini serves as the nickname for University of Illinois athletics teams according to their official website. This season saw Ava Moore start all 54 games at shortstop while Skylar Brennan led in hits. Keirys Click moved into seventh place on Illinois’ single-season list after being hit by pitch twelve times this year.

The program focuses on intercollegiate competition within NCAA Division I play as part of its affiliation with the Big Ten Conference according to information available through their official site.
