The University of Illinois Fighting Illini men’s basketball team, currently ranked No. 13 nationally, will face Minnesota on Saturday at State Farm Center in Champaign, Illinois. The game is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT and will be broadcast on BTN.

Illinois enters the matchup with a 14-3 overall record and a 5-1 mark in Big Ten Conference play. Minnesota stands at 10-7 overall and 3-3 in conference games. The Illini are aiming to extend their current six-game winning streak, which is the team’s best since March 2024. A win would also give Illinois its first seven-game win streak since that time.

Head coach Brad Underwood has led the team to notable success during his tenure, compiling a career record of 288-131 over 13 years and a 179-104 record at Illinois across nine seasons. In Big Ten play under Underwood, the team holds a record of 97-67.

Illinois’ probable starting lineup includes Kylan Boswell (senior guard), Keaton Wagler (freshman guard), Andrej Stojakovic (junior guard), David Mirkovic (freshman forward), and Tomislav Ivisic (junior center). Key reserves include Brandon Lee, Ben Humrichous, AJ Redd, Blake Fagbemi, Jake Davis, Ty Rodgers (out indefinitely due to knee surgery), Jason Jakstys, Zvonimir Ivisic, and Mihailo Petrovic.

This season marks one of the program’s strongest starts since the early 2010s. At 14-3 overall, Illinois matches its best start through 17 games since the 2012-13 season. The Illini are also performing well on the road with a perfect Big Ten away record this year.

Statistically, Illinois is recognized as the tallest team in college basketball this season with an average height of nearly 6-foot-8. The team’s offensive output ranks among the nation’s best; they hold third place in offensive efficiency according to kenpom.com and second nationally in free throw percentage at over 80%. Four players—Wagler, Boswell, Stojakovic, and Mirkovic—average double figures in scoring.

Freshman Keaton Wagler leads all Illini scorers with an average of 16.1 points per game and is on pace to set a new freshman scoring record for the school. He has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week three times this season. Fellow freshman David Mirkovic is among only three freshmen nationwide averaging at least twelve points, eight rebounds, and two assists per game.

Senior guard Kylan Boswell has reached more than 1,100 career points while junior Andrej Stojakovic is close to reaching the milestone of one thousand career points.

Illinois leads Minnesota in their all-time series with a record of 131 wins to Minnesota’s 68 and have won eight straight contests against them. Head coach Brad Underwood holds a personal record of nine wins and two losses versus Minnesota while coaching at Illinois.

As part of NCAA Division I athletics within the Big Ten Conference (official website), Illinois continues its tradition dating back to its first intercollegiate game during the 1905-06 season (official website). The team plays home games in Champaign (official website) under the “Fighting Illini” nickname (official website). Over its history, Illinois has claimed multiple Big Ten titles (official website), reached five Final Fours including most recently in 2005 (official website), and captured an undefeated national championship in 1915 (official website).

Saturday’s contest will mark the teams’ landmark 200th meeting—making it one of Illinois’ longest-running rivalries—and provides another opportunity for Coach Underwood’s squad to solidify its position near the top of both conference standings and national rankings.
