The University of Illinois men’s tennis team earned a decisive 6-1 win against Penn State on Mar. 29, strengthening its position in the Big Ten Conference.
This result is significant for the Fighting Illini as it marks a strong recovery following previous matches and contributes to their ongoing season performance. The team now holds a record of 16-5 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
Illinois secured the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 positions, as Tyler Bowers and Sasha Colleu defeated Kyle Chesman and Marcus Schoeman, while Kenta Miyoshi and William Mroz won against Michael Wright and David Lindsay. In singles play, Illinois captured wins at the top five courts: Miyoshi claimed his second victory of the day with a straight-set win over Wright; Adam Jilly beat Reiya Hattori; Colleu overcame Lindsay; Mroz bested Schoeman; and Hayden Jones defeated Eyal Shyovitz. Penn State managed its only point with a close three-set win by Chesman over Jeremy Zhang at No. 6 singles.
