The University of Illinois Fighting Illini men’s golf team finished in eighth place at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational, according to an April 5 announcement. The team posted a three-round total of 840, or 24 under par, and moved up two spots on the leaderboard after their final round.
The result highlights the team’s continued participation in high-level collegiate tournaments, which offer student-athletes opportunities for competition and growth. The Fighting Illini compete under NCAA Division I guidelines and within the Big Ten Conference, as described by the official website.
Sophomore Jake Birdwell led Illinois with a tie for eleventh place after shooting ten under par across three rounds. His performance included a bogey-free final round of 66 and marked his first top-15 finish as part of the lineup since last year’s Big Ten Championship. Junior Dane Huddleston and senior Ryan Voois both tied for thirty-first at four under par. Freddie Turnell and Max Herendeen each finished one under par in a tie for forty-fifth place.
North Carolina’s Sihan Sandhu won individual honors after a playoff against Georgia Southern’s Thomas Horne. North Carolina also secured the team title at fifty-four under par, followed by Oklahoma State and Pepperdine.
University of Illinois Fighting Illini Men’s Golf engages in fall and spring tournaments, including conference and national events to foster competitive experience, according to the official website.
