Illini women fall to Iowa in Big Ten quarterfinals; await NCAA selection

The University of Illinois Fighting Illini women’s basketball team was eliminated from the Big Ten Tournament after a 64-58 loss to No. 9 Iowa in the quarterfinals held in Indianapolis.

Jasmine Brown-Hagger led Illinois with a season-high 22 points, while Berry Wallace added 13 points and Destiny Jackson contributed 10 points and six assists. Brown-Hagger also secured three offensive rebounds, helping Illinois generate 11 second-chance points from their 11 offensive boards.

Illinois forced Iowa into 16 turnovers, converting those into 17 points. Cearah Parchment led the team with three steals. Despite trailing by as many as 22 points in the second half, Illinois closed the game with a strong run, outscoring Iowa 27-11 in the final quarter and finishing on a 15-0 stretch.

The Fighting Illini now await their NCAA Tournament fate, with selections scheduled for Sunday, March 15 at 7 p.m. CT.

Berry Wallace’s performance included her 30th double-digit scoring game this season and moved her to ninth on Illinois’ single-season scoring list with 590 points. She has scored in double figures for each of the last 22 games and has made a three-pointer in ten consecutive games. Wallace also remained perfect from the free throw line for her sixth straight game.

Cearah Parchment remains second on Illinois’ freshman season scoring list with 430 points and continues to build on her program record for freshman rebounds, now totaling 267.

Destiny Jackson recorded her fifteenth double-digit scoring game of the season and extended her own freshman assist record to 167. She is now four assists away from holding sole possession of second place on Illinois’ all-time single-season assist list.

Jasmine Brown-Hagger achieved her first 20-point game of the season and third of her career, marking back-to-back games with double-digit scoring for only the second time this year.

Illinois started Destiny Jackson, Aaliyah Guyton, Jasmine Brown-Hagger, Berry Wallace, and Cearah Parchment—this lineup holds a record of seven wins and six losses this season.

Head coach Shauna Green’s record at Illinois stands at 84-46 overall and she is now three wins and four losses in Big Ten Tournament play. Against Iowa specifically, Green is even at three wins apiece over her career.
