The University of Illinois men’s and women’s track and field teams achieved seven new top-10 program marks during the final day of the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational, held on April 18. The event took place in Gainesville, Florida, where several athletes improved their standing in school history.
These results highlight the ongoing strength of the Illini track and field program, which competes in both indoor and outdoor competitions according to the official website.
Mia Morello delivered a standout performance by clearing 4.50 meters (14-9) in the pole vault, earning second place. This mark is now second-best in school history and currently ranks fifth nationally. On the track, Grace Kombetto finished tenth in the 800 meters with a time that stands as third-fastest for Illinois. Jackson Gilbert secured eighth place in the 400 meters with a time of 45.47 seconds—the fourth-fastest ever recorded by an Illini athlete—and this result is twelfth fastest nationally.
In other notable performances, Katharina Graman jumped to sixth place in triple jump with a distance of 13.27 meters (43-6½), making it fourth-best all-time for Illinois. Romi Tamir’s eighth-place finish was also significant as her jump was sixth-best for the program at 13.04 meters (42-9½). Reece Ihenacho threw discus for third place with a mark that now stands ninth best at Illinois (55.65m/182-7). Sophia Beckmon sprinted to second place in the 100 meters with a time that places her ninth on Illinois’ all-time list at 11.45 seconds.
