Fire crews from the Champaign and Urbana Fire Departments responded to a fire in a commercial office building located in the 1800 block of S. Oak St. on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 12:08 p.m. According to officials, firefighters arrived following a report from an occupant about a fire in the two-story office building.

Once on site, crews found that the fire was limited to a battery that was being charged. Firefighters used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames and then moved the battery outside. The incident was contained to the item with the battery.

Authorities stated that “The cause of this fire is accidental. There were no firefighter or occupant injuries reported.”
