The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire in a condemned multi-family apartment building located in the 100 block of Kenwood Rd. on Saturday, July 5, at 10:31 p.m. The fire crews managed to extinguish the fire promptly.

Firefighters were alerted by a passerby about the fire in the three-story apartment building. Upon arrival, they observed smoke and flames coming from an apartment on the third floor, prompting them to upgrade the situation to a working fire. Initially, firefighters used the deck gun from their engine to combat the flames before moving inside with multiple hose lines.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined as investigators are still conducting their examination of the scene. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries among firefighters.
