City of Hoopeston City Council met Dec. 2
Here are the minutes provided by the council:
I. CALL TO ORDER – Mayor Carter called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm following the pledge of allegiance.
II. ROLL CALL – The following 7 alderpersons were present: Eyrich, K. Ferrell, M. Ferrell, Garrett, McElhaney, Porth, and Scharlach. Alderwoman Lawson was absent. Mayor Carter and Clerk Hardcastle were also present. Eric Eves was on Zoom.
III. AMENDMENT OR APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA – Alderman Garrett moved to approve the agenda as presented. Alderman M. Ferrell seconded the motion. Motion carried.
IV. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE PREVIOUS COUNCIL MEETING – Alderman Garrett moved to approve the minutes of the previous council meeting. Alderman M. Ferrell seconded the motion. Motion carried.
V. APPROVAL OF THE PAYMENT OF THE BILLS – Alderman McElhaney moved to approve the payment of the city’s bills. Alderman Eyrich seconded the motion. A roll call vote was taken (Ayes: Eyrich, K. Ferrell, M. Ferrell, Garrett, McElhaney, Porth, Scharlach – Nays: None – Abstentions: None – Absent: Lawson) and the bills were approved 7-0.

X. REPORT OF OFFICERS

i. Nothing to report.
b. K. FERRELL
i. 819 S FIFTH STREET – Alderwoman K. Ferrell reported that the demolition of the remaining structure at 819 S. Fifth St has been completed.Â
c. M. FERRELL
i. Nothing to report.
d. GARRETT
i. BABY MARKERS – Alderman Garrett reported that Adams’s Memorials has submitted a bid for $60 per marker for the baby markers. Alderman Garrett has some follow up phone calls to make before this is finalized.
e. LAWSON
i. Absent.
f. MCELHANEY
i. BRICKS AT CITY SLAB – Alderman McElhaney reported that the bricks at the city slab are almost gone and the project will be wrapped up once the weather gets better.
ii. SNOW ROUTES – Residents were reminded that they need to move their vehicles off of snow routes or face fines.
g. PORTH
i. HVAC IN THE COUNCIL ROOM – Alderman Porth reported that the blower motor needs replaced in the HVAC unit that services the city council room. Estimates came in around $2,000 to fix.
ii. INSURANCE BIDS – Alderman Porth has not heard back on the insurance bids yet but they will hopefully be available and up for a vote at the next meeting.
h. SCHARLACH
i. Nothing to report.
XI. COMMUNICATIONS TO THE COUNCIL – None
XII. UNFINISHED BUSINESS – NoneÂ
XIII. NEW BUSINESS – None
XIV. MAYOR COMMENTS
a. THANKS TO PUBLIC WORKS – Mayor Carter thanked the Public Works employees for all their work during the last snow and asked for patience from residents since most of the employees are newer this year. Alderman Garrett reminded residents that the city does not plow out private driveways.
XV. COMMENTS FROM THE ATTORNEY
a. ESSEX CASE – Eric Eves reported that city responses have been filed and the other side still has to respond.
b. KEYSTONE SOLAR CONTRACT – Eric has been reviewing the contract and there is still an issue that needs to be worked out. Alderman Eyrich advised that he has been in contact with the electrical engineer about it.
c. BURNED-OUT BUILDINGS – Alderwoman K. Ferrell asked Eric if had any updates on notices going out to the burned-out properties. Eric advised that he would follow up on that at the next meeting.
XVI. ADJOURNMENT – There being no further action to come before the council Alderman Garrett moved to adjourn the meeting. Alderman McElhaney seconded the motion. Motion was carried 7-0. Meeting adjourned at 7:11 pm.Â
