The Champaign Police Department announced on March 25 the results of a traffic enforcement campaign that took place from March 13 through March 23. The initiative aimed to address the potential impacts of impaired driving in the community.
The campaign is part of an ongoing effort to improve road safety and reduce incidents related to impaired driving. It involved collaboration between Champaign Police, the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Police, and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies.
According to officials, Champaign Police officers dedicated twenty hours of grant-funded enforcement during this period. The focus was on arterial routes, particularly those affecting neighborhoods. This work was conducted in addition to routine patrols by on-duty officers.
The campaign was supported by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. No further details about specific outcomes or statistics were provided in the announcement.
