Champaign Police investigate fatal shooting at Market Place Shopping Center

Champaign Police announced on March 22 that a 16-year-old died after being shot during a fight in the parking lot of the Market Place Shopping Center near Dick’s House of Sport Store. The incident occurred at approximately 6:14 p.m. on March 21, when at least one person fired a gun, striking the victim.

Police and Champaign Fire Department personnel provided immediate medical assistance before the victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at 11:44 p.m.

No arrests have been made, and police say the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are asking for help from anyone who may have information or video footage related to the incident.
