On August 13, 2025, the Building Safety Division of the Champaign Fire Department issued a building permit for new construction at 309 S. First St. The project is valued at $10.9 million and will include both commercial space and multi-family units.

The department reported that the total construction value for projects in Champaign so far in 2025 stands at $130,281,557.
