Champaign marked National Night Out on August 5, 2025, with an event aimed at building connections among residents, city officials, and public safety staff. The gathering included food, activities for families, and appearances by costumed superheroes.
Attendees met with Councilwoman Kathy Shannon as well as representatives from the Champaign Police Department, Fire Department, Neighborhood Services Department, Equity and Engagement Department, and Tricoci University. These groups played a role in organizing the event.
According to organizers, “The evening fostered stronger relationships between neighbors and the officers who serve them, reinforcing the city’s commitment to public safety, equity, and community engagement.”
The event is part of a broader effort to encourage positive interaction between community members and local government departments.
