Champaign Fire Department responds to apartment fire on W White St., no injuries reported

Fire crews from the Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire in a ten-unit apartment building located in the 500 block of W White St. on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 5:13 p.m. The department reported that firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control.

According to officials, the response was initiated after a neighbor reported seeing a fire in the two-story building. Upon arrival, crews observed smoke coming from a first-floor apartment and used a single hose line to extinguish the flames.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined as investigators continue their work at the scene. No injuries were reported among either firefighters or residents. However, one occupant has been displaced due to damage from the incident.
