The Big Ten Conference announced on May 4 the home and away matchups for the University of Illinois Fighting Illini Women’s Volleyball team during the 2026 regular season.
The new schedule matters because it reflects a shift to a 17-match conference format, prompted by the introduction of the first-ever Big Ten Volleyball Tournament. This change affects how teams prepare and compete throughout the season.
Illinois is set to host nine home matches at their venue in Champaign, Illinois, while playing eight matches on the road. Among their home opponents are six teams that reached the NCAA Tournament in 2025, including Wisconsin, which advanced to the Final Four. On the road, Illinois will face three more NCAA Tournament qualifiers: Indiana (Sweet 16), Nebraska (Elite Eight), and Purdue (Elite Eight).
According to the official website, “The Fighting Illini mascot represents University of Illinois athletics, including the women’s volleyball team.” The site also confirms that “the University of Illinois Fighting Illini Women’s Volleyball team competes in NCAA Division I as part of the Big Ten Conference” and operates out of Champaign, Illinois according to its official website.
Looking ahead, this rotation will be reversed for the following year; in 2027 Illinois is scheduled for eight home matches and nine on-the-road contests within Big Ten play.
