BHRA highlights student mentorship and athletics in recent Twitter updates

Bismarck-Henning Rossville-Alvin Cooperative High School (BHRA) used its official Twitter account this week to highlight student mentorship, athletic events, and the return of a county basketball tournament. The posts, made between January 15 and 16, offer insight into student engagement at the school.

On January 15, BHRA thanked senior students for their participation in mentoring younger peers through a community program: “It takes a village—and strong role models Thank you to our Blue Devil seniors for mentoring our BHJH 5th graders through the D.A.R.E. program. Your dedication, leadership, and heart for our younger students made this experience truly special. Way to lead, Blue Devils! https://t.co/OTWaM0Gfia”.

Later that day, the school promoted an upcoming wrestling event with a post encouraging attendance: ” DUAL DAY The Blue Devils hit the mat tonight! BHRA Blue Devils Urbana Tigers Wilcox Gymnasium 6:00 PM NFHS Network will stream the event Come out and support your Blue Devils! https://t.co/l9mq2N98rl” (January 15).

On January 16, BHRA announced the opening night of a local basketball tournament: ” 2026 Vermilion County Tournament — Opening Night! Admission: $5 Live streams: https://t.co/hpABi0NvBd Be there or tune in — County Tournament basketball is back! https://t.co/LqKnZhCqxY”.

Bismarck-Henning Rossville-Alvin Cooperative High School serves grades nine through twelve in Bismarck and Vermilion County and had an enrollment of 334 during the 2019-2020 academic year (source). According to state data from that year, grade ten comprised the largest proportion of students at 26.3 percent (Illinois Report Card). Seniors represented about 22.5 percent of enrollment while grades eleven and nine accounted for approximately one-quarter each (Illinois Report Card). Demographically, over ninety percent of students identified as white; other represented groups included black (0.9%), Hispanic (3.3%), and Asian (1.2%) students (Illinois Report Card).

The recent social media posts reflect ongoing efforts by BHRA to involve both older and younger students in community-building activities as well as athletic competition.
