Fighting Illini freshman Adam Jilly was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Mar. 18 after his performances in recent singles matches, according to a statement from the conference office.

Jilly’s recognition marks his third time receiving the weekly honor this season, highlighting his impact on the University of Illinois Fighting Illini Men’s Tennis team. The award comes after he secured wins that clinched Illinois’ victories over Nebraska and Wisconsin during road matches.

In Friday’s match against Nebraska, Jilly defeated Niels Van Der Sijs in straight sets to secure a 4-1 win for Illinois. Two days later, he earned another clinching victory with a three-set win over Edouard Aubert at No. 4 singles against Wisconsin. This result extended both his personal singles winning streak to five matches and the team’s overall winning streak to ten.

This is the fourth time an Illini has received Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors this season, with teammate Sasha Colleu also earning the distinction earlier in January. The team now prepares to return home for two matches at Atkins Tennis Center against Michigan and Michigan State.

The University of Illinois Fighting Illini Men’s Tennis program participates in dual matches and tournaments as part of its season, according to the official website. The program contributes to the athletic heritage at the University of Illinois and aligns with both university athletics and the Big Ten Conference according to its official website. It supports student-athletes in balancing academic and athletic responsibilities while adhering to NCAA Division I regulations according to its official website. The team is recognized for its participation in competitive tennis events according to its official website.
