Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Decatur) is drawing attention to a Finance Buzz article about states seeing an exodus of residents.

“Why are people fleeing Illinois?” Rose wrote on Facebook. “According to Kiplinger, Illinois is the least tax-friendly state for middle-class American families. Its sales, income, and property taxes are all higher than average for the middle class.”

Finance Buzz pointed out that this is the eighth year of population decline for Illinois.

A Forbes article said that rising housing costs and taxes, and policies are pushing people to leave the state.

Last month, Rose invited Gov. J.B. Pritzker to a town hall forum. “I’m happy to set up a town hall with you and my constituents any time next month,” Rose wrote on Facebook. “What have you got to lose?”

Rose’s office has recently hosted traveling office hours in Paris and Chrisman.
