State Sen. Chapin Rose proposed the measure known as the Fund the Police grant.

A state senator is proposing a $100 million grant that will help out the Illinois law enforcement community.

State Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) proposed the measure known as the Fund the Police grant.

The grant will provide for the hiring of law enforcement officers, mental health treatment for officers, and safety equipment and training to “prevent gang violence, motor vehicle theft, vehicular hijacking or the sale of contraband.”

The act would afford appropriations to the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board from the fund with the board making grants to units of local government and Illinois public universities.

The assembly stated that the law would provide that the money in the fund cannot be appropriated, assigned or transferred to any other state account.

The bill would go into effect after it is passed with the state comptroller directing the state treasurer to transfer $100 million from the general revenue fund to the Fund the Police Grant fund.
