Danville FD responds to 167 fires in 2017

Danville Fire Department responded to 356 calls in 2017 - 18.9 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Danville included 167 fires - 80 structure fires, 18 vehicle fires and 69 other fires. The fire department also responded to 17 calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $394,615 in fire loss - or about $2,363 per fire.

The department also received 172 false calls, including one malicious call and 171 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Danville Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 44 active employees and 83 retired or inactive employees, was $3,559,322 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $25,980 for every fire in 2016.
