St. Joseph Community Consolidated School District 169 Board of Education met July 11.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

Board President, Lois Hewerdine, brought the regular July 11, 2017 meeting to order at 6:31 p.m. Roll call was taken with the following members present: Lois Hewerdine, Scott Perkins, Jeff Hoveln, and Jennifer Carlson. Danielle Aguirre, Brooks Bennett-Miller and Amy Smith were absent.

Review and Approve Minutes: Jennifer Carlson moved and Scott Perkins seconded the motion to approve the June 13, 2017 regular session, FY 2017 amended budget, and executive session minutes as amended. Voice vote: 3 Aye, 0 Nay, 1 Abstain. Motion carried.

Amy Smith arrived at 6:34 p.m.

Financial Reports: Mr. Pence went over the treasurer’s report; monthly, year-to-date,YTD operating budget, state funding and sales tax reports; discussed the fiscal year end report; and reviewed the bills.

Scott Perkins moved and Jeff Hoveln seconded the motion to approve the bills as presented. Roll call vote: Lois Hewerdine, Aye; Jennifer Carlson, Aye; Scott Perkins, Aye; Amy Smith, Aye; and Jeff Hoveln, Aye.. Motion carried.

Public Participation: None.

Building and Maintenance Report: Mr. Pence discussed the status of the summer projects; gave the lead testing results; and discussed SERVPRO - Emergency Ready Profile. Most of the summer projects are done or are scheduled to be done soon. Four water fountains will be replaced due to the lead testing results. SERVPRO will be compiling a report that we can add to for emergency purposes.

Superintendent’s Report: Mr. Pence discussed the Prevailing Rate of Wages Resolution; recreating the Impress Fund; the School Treasurer Bond: renewing the Property & General Liability and Worker’s Compensation Insurance; and gave a second reading of the updated Board policies listed in the agenda.

At 7:23 p.m. Amy Smith moved and Jennifer Carlson seconded the motion to go into executive session for the discussion of performance, discipline, appointment, employment, terms and conditions of employment and compensation of personnel; and review of closed session minutes. Voice Vote: 5 Aye, 0 Nay.

At 8:36 p.m. Jennifer Carlson moved and Amy Smith seconded the motion to come out of executive session. Voice Vote: 5 Aye, 0 Nay.

Action Items: Jeff Hoveln moved and Amy Smith seconded the motion to approve the Early Retirement Incentive Request for Chris Graham with the same retirement track increases negotiated within the current teacher's contract. Roll call vote: Lois Hewerdine, Aye; Jennifer Carlson, Aye; Scott Perkins, Nay; Amy Smith, Aye; and Jeff Hoveln, Aye.. Motion carried.

Amy Smith moved and Jeff Hoveln seconded the motion to adopt the Prevailing Rate of Wages Resolution. Roll call vote: Lois Hewerdine, Aye; Jennifer Carlson, Aye; Scott Perkins, Aye; Amy Smith, Aye; and Jeff Hoveln, Aye.. Motion carried.

Scott Perkins moved and Jennifer Carlson seconded the recreate the Impress Fund. Roll call vote: Lois Hewerdine, Aye; Jennifer Carlson, Aye; Scott Perkins, Aye; Amy Smith, Aye; and Jeff Hoveln, Aye.. Motion carried.

Amy Smith moved and Jeff Hoveln seconded the motion to renew the School Treasurer Bond with Travelers Casualty & Surety. Roll call vote: Lois Hewerdine, Aye; Jennifer Carlson, Aye; Scott Perkins, Aye; Amy Smith, Aye; and Jeff Hoveln, Aye.. Motion carried.

Scott Perkins moved and Jeff Hoveln seconded the motion to authorize seeking bids for Property & General Liability and Worker’s Compensation Insurance. Roll call vote: Lois Hewerdine, Aye; Jennifer Carlson, Aye; Scott Perkins, Aye; Amy Smith, Aye; and Jeff Hoveln, Aye.. Motion carried.

Jennifer Carlson moved and Amy Smith seconded the motion to adopt the updated Board policies listed in the agenda. Roll call vote: Lois Hewerdine, Aye; Jennifer Carlson, Aye; Scott Perkins, Aye; Amy Smith, Aye; and Jeff Hoveln, Aye.. Motion carried.

Jeff Hoveln moved and Amy Smith seconded the motion to continue the confidential treatment of closed session minutes and destruction of audio recordings of closed sessions prior to December 2015. Roll call vote: Lois Hewerdine, Aye; Jennifer Carlson, Aye; Scott Perkins, Aye; Amy Smith, Aye; and Jeff Hoveln, Aye.. Motion carried.

At 8:50 p.m. Jennifer Carlson moved and Scott Perkins seconded the motion to adjourn the meeting. Voice Vote: 5 Aye, 0 Nay.
