• Questions and Answers

A question and answer session was held after the presentation in which attendees asked why the 15,000 population number was taken into account with respect to school funding. Pfeifer explained that the School District was much larger than just the Village limits. Widener stated the Village population is based on those living in the Village corporate limits. He also explained that Village residents also pay a portion of their taxes to the Village.

Attendees requested clarification on the population on the population of the community and its impact on the Fire and Police. Metzler indicated that Cornbelt is not part of the Village, but its own district. He noted that when the Village population exceeded 5,000 it had significant impacts on the funding, especially related to the funding of the Police Pension. Trustees Harpst indicated that like the school district, Cornbelt’s district is significantly larger than the Village.

Another attendee wanted clarification on what makes the Village operate bigger than it is. Widener clarified that is was more related to the impacts. He stated there are 40% more residents outside the Village who impact the infrastructure/roads which is a large expense.

The Trustees discussed the need to recognize the entire area as “Mahomet” when doing planning and economic development, but operations and maintenance are smaller. The community and the “Village” are different and the “Village” is much smaller.

One resident asked about playground offerings in town. Bridle Leash Park was identified and President Widener referenced the Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

Adjournment:

There being no further business, Oliger moved, Lynn seconded, “To Adjourn at 5:55 p.m.” Roll Call: All Yes. Motion carried.
