Urbana ranked 671th in state in lottery ticket sales for February 2016

The City of Urbana had the 671th highest lottery ticket net sales statewide per capita for the month of February 2016 -- up 47 spots from its January ranking.

The per capita lottery ticket sales in Urbana was $11.87 per person.

Based on monthly sales records obtained by the Chambana Sun, Urbana generated $502,415 in net sales from its 25 lottery retailers in February 2016, compared to $558,875 in February 2015.

The City of Urbana is in Champaign County, and has a population of 42,311, according to 2010 census data. Neighboring municipalities are Champaign.

Average sales for municipalities in the region in February 2016 was $19,942.40.

Urbana's top lottery retailer is Meijer #247 located at 2500 S Philo Rd, Urbana, IL 61802.

Meijer #247 generated 11 percent of Urbana's February 2016 lottery ticket sales and 3 percent of Champaign County's sales that month, which was $2,233,549.50.

A close look at sales by city shows that the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita in Champaign County in 2015 were Ogden, Gifford, Mahomet, Rantoul and Thomasboro.

Statewide, the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita were Forest View, Burnt Prairie, McCook, Mapleton and Merrionette Park.

The top five cities in the state generated $5,496,719 in net sales -- 1 percent of the state's 2015 net sales amounting to $2,793,271,709.50.
