The Champaign Human Relations Commission held a presentation by the Community Coalition regarding priorities and other items during its meeting on Feb. 1.

During this presentation it was noted that the community coalition aims to increase its social marketing with a focus on the partnerships and other collaborations and to increase engagement activities within its youth development programs. The coalition has also made enhancing its efforts in reducing and preventing violence within the community.

During this presentation it was also noted that the Champaign County Mental Health Board has committed $107,000 to support coalition activities. The presentation also covered what it was able to accomplish over the course of 2015. Among these, the minutes state that over the summer projects and partnerships were able to make positive impacts on approximately 900 young people.

Data that has been collected indicates that a larger focus should be placed on meeting the needs of the African American community, especially family and youth needs. The presentation also indicated the need for long-term sustainability for the coalition.

It also notes that the City of Champaign has made progress in leadership for its community.

This meeting was adjourned at approximately 6:32 p.m. following the presentation.
