The Village of Savoy Planning Commission held a public hearing Dec. 14 to gather feedback on a special use permit application that would allow a new retail and storage development on Dunlap Avenue.

Several residents addressed the commission with their concerns about drainage at the site, as well as the compatibility of its appearance with the surrounding neighborhood.

Scott Garth, who's affiliated with the applicant, said the development will depend on an underground water retention system similar to those used by other local businesses. He added that the buildings will be stucco, brick and glass -- not metal -- and that the developers are also planning to build a fence along some of the properties boundaries.

On the condition that an 8-foot fence is built, the commission unanimously advanced the permit request to the board of trustees for final consideration.

The commission also advanced the general plan and preliminary plat map for Prairie Fields Subdivision No. 14 to the board.

Trustee Larry Kienzler was absent.
