Rantoul to consider automated meter reading at next meeting

The Rantoul Village Board of Trustees established several budget items for its next meeting at its Nov. 3 study session, including street maintenance allocation and automated meter-reading technology.

In the session, the board established that it will discuss the IML Risk Management Association Min/Max Contribution Agreement with the village; the street maintenance budget allocation for 2016; and the Rantoul City School's contract for school resource officers.

In zoning items, the board approved for discussion a variance for a Subway sign and the possibility of rezoning the downtown area from C-2 to CB. The board also approved a discussion on tax levies. Lastly, it will hear a presentation on automated meter reading.

The meeting was attended by Mayor Charles Smith and trustees Tony Brown, Jennifer Fox, Hank Gamel,  Chad Smith, Ken Turner and Gary Wilson.
