Champaign Unit 4 School District honored its school board members at its meeting Monday as part of School Board Members Day in Illinois.

The holiday is a statewide acknowledgement and celebration of community members who volunteer their time to steer local schools in their communities. District officials reminded the public of the immense responsibility school board officials carry, the numerous policies they manage, and the scale of their duties which in Unit 4 includes managing a $152 million budget, nearly 10,000 students and more than 1,800 employees on 19 campuses.

The honorees were given copies of a CD of music about insects recorded and produced by second-graders and 3D-printed toys made by art students. The district also announced it would donate $50 on behalf of each board member and student ambassador to a charity of their choice.

The Unit 4 board of education members honored Christopher Kloeppel, Amy Armstrong, Kathy Shannon, Jonathan Westfield, Kathy Richards, Laurie Bonnett, and Lynn Stuckey. School officials also thanked student ambassadors Mac Dressman of Central High School and Inyoung Choi of Centennial High School.
